Finding Myself at the MMFA
By Florence Yee
Artist Statement
I began trying to find a presence like mine, and a history like mine, in the Museum of Fine Arts in my hometown. My interventions via projection contemplate my place on this territory, and within this European whitewashing of the “Canadian and Quebecois Art’s” legacy.
Artist Bio
Florence Yee is a 2.5-generation, Canto-struggling artist, whose practice involves social history research and her relationship to her grandmother. Her concerns with diaspora and commodification create a dialogue with the comforts and pitfalls of East-Asian kitsch. She is a member of articule, and La Centrale, galerie Powerhouse.
